The Cumby Arms Darlington, always a good venue and as usual tidy Scooters usually of a Lambretta variety, this year though the Scooter of the day was the revamped Vespa Rally the Italian Job, a one owner Scooter for over 30 years, the Scooter is owned by long time friend Dave who runs the Scooter site Vespa Obsession, and one of my all time favourite Scoots going back to the days of reading the Northern Mod Scene and longing for the day when i would be old enough to be street legal.
The L.C.G.B Coast to Coast rally, or to be exact the very same weekend as my 10th Wedding Anniversary, I suppose i could of done the run but it would'nt really of been Cricket would it?
not to worry the plan was simple meet up with the lads at fog bound Robin Hoods Bay, ride half way then Scoot back for mid afternoon celebrations with my good wife, trouble was you can never trust a pack of reliable Lambrettas and the plan fell apart after 50 miles and a few breakdowns, never one to give up the Run was held again in 2008 and i'm glad to say the run was completed in a non breakdown fashion by yours truly, long live the Lambretta......
The Snooty Fox, venue to many Rallies over the years and it's nearly always a sunny day, how do they do that....
Tadcaster, home of the Breweries and a well known Scooter town, even though the season was coming to a close the run still attracted a lot of Scooters and i think we all rode onto Wetherby to the Engine Shed pub later that afternoon, memories failing you know.
Last run, a wet weekend in Bridlington, brrrr
And finally at the end of 2006 my trusty old 1960s Lambretta was put back into it's play box as i decided to build a more modern Scooter, yeah that's right we moved all the way into 1970 with the latest model a Grand Prix 200, but one day that old Lambretta Special will hit the roads again, one day..
