The Scooter Scene moves on into the Millenium, and I purchase another Lambretta, well late 99 I did anyhow, thinking my rally days were over I purchased a Blue 125 Special[below centre], just for pottering about, It had been for sale at a local auto jumble, the seller said it would run forever, a well known name from the L.C.G.B [Dave W] quipped it would take that long to get there, a lot of people passed up the chance of buying the Scooter that day me included, it found a new home that night with Sooty from Brid, but you know how missing a chance of a good Scoot gets to you and by Xmas 99 it was mine, a quick 175 conversion which later turned into stage 5 '225' conversion and we were off to the first event of the new Millenium.
The legendry Gingers egg run, organised by the equally legendry Ginger from the Bolton Spartans, always a healthy turnout of Scooters for a good cause, a bit of a baptism of fire for my newly run in 175 chasing 2 tuned Lambrettas and a 200 Vespa over the old A62 Oldham route, and it snowed on the way home, hardy lot us Yorkshire Mods, anyhow good memories and a few pics with the cold North West.
Afraid a few of the pics below were taken with the new at the time revolutionary advantic wide screen camera a real step backwards in the history of Scooter photos, never mind bring back vinyl, bring back 35mm
Armandos Scooter shop open day, there can't be many people out there who have'nt heard of this Sheffield shop and it recently celebrated it's 50th anniversary, so here's to the next 50 years..
Talking of anniversary Rallies, the pictures below were taken at the York S.C and Scunthorpe Pathfinders joint 25th anniversary event, it consisted of a camping weekend and a big beertent at a pub just outside Bradford, good time was had by all, ouch still remember the hangover,
In the same year as York and Scunthorpe had their 25th the Doncaster Hunters celebrated their 30th anniversary and yours truly could never forget how hard it was to attend, anyone remember the fuel crisis in the UK, set off for this one with a full tank and a container of petrol which we had to syphon from my mates motocrosser, the event was in Mexborough and it was touch and go if i could do the return trip with the limited fuel and most garages shut, the Scooter was kept to 50mph and i only changed gear once at York roundabout before hitting the A1, in the end the 175 engine made it on 3/4 of a gallon which still amazes me to this day, and if the Hunters are reading this I attended your 20th and 30th anniversary events so get planning because I expect an invite to your 40th..
Euro Lambretta2000 was held at Witton Castle in the North of England, an excellent venue and very well organised, the only thing the L.C.G.B could'nt lay on was the blazing sunshine and the visiting european clubs were introduced to bracing Northern winds, I personaly fell foul to these winds as I was by now content with just attending Rallies for the day and had thrown my tent away, so took my kids play tent for the weekend, oh how the lads laughed when they found out who had pitched it,though not as much as they laughed when someone came in the bar and said that a kids tent had just blown across the campsite, eeh such is life.
