1997/98
My Scooter riding season was cut short in 1996 due to a broken wrist whilst travelling home in a shopping trolley, thanks ''Arty'' so Easter 97 was a real high for me as our first child had just been born, Scooters were becoming a more common sight due to the recent Britpop Craze and the L.C.G.B were heading to Scarborough for the Bank Holiday, the attendence was not massive, in fact everyone managed to fit into a South Cliff hotel for the evening do, though the standard of Scooters there was very high and a real feel of Nostalgia as they parked up along Scarborough seafront, rekindling my Teenage memories.
Kettering, or the L.C.G.B rally to commemorate 50 years of the Lambretta motor Scooter, an excellent event featuring a Custom show, guest speakers from the golden years of Scootering past and all on on a scorching hot weekend, still remember the journey home, long lines of Lambretta Scooters limping their way North up the A1, me being no exception as my engine drain plug disintergrated 90 miles from home and was remedied with a juggle of the nuts[oooer]a spark plug, chewing gum and a bottle of 2 stroke into the gearbox, top bodgers us lads.
But the thing I remember the most was being totally inspired by the immaculate Scooters I had seen over the weekend, and was already planning to revamp my own Scooter for the 98 season.
The pics below were taken at the Chiselspeed open day in Leeds in 97, the shop seems to of been going forever either in Barwick in Elmet or at the old Dyrospeed premises in East Street Leeds, certainly well situated for most parts of Yorkshire and well worth a visit, the last 2 pics were at a York s.c event at around the same time.
Whitby and my daughters first ever Scooter Rally, thats her being held by Whitby's illustrated man and a good friend Alex, always a difficult run for me as I have to take the kids in the car to visit their Grandma then return home to pick up the Wife and Scooter and return back to Whitby, just as well it's a local Rally.
9 August 97, I turned 32 that weekend and we attended a run just South of the Humber, it was organised by the Hull and Scunthorpe clubs and the sun was absolutely blazing, that's me in the last 2 photos enroute crossing the Humber Bridge in my full motorcycle protection gear, and if you think I was a daft lad me mate Ian who took the photo was riding non handed without a shirt on and clicking the camera, thinking back we were'nt really that bright.
August Bank 97, Just a couple of pics from Scarborough, I guess this is the point where I say if your waiting for pics from the Isle of Wight or dozens of other National Rallies then it's time to swich off as with my new vocation as a parent I just started to attend more local events, but if you like looking at pictures of Scooters from the North of England and latterly Y.S.A rallies, then stick with it and enjoy.
Lincoln S.C rally, the same day as Princess Diana's funeral, the nation was in national mourning and the poor Lincoln lads their event on the same day, the journey there was weird, the roads were almost completely empty and we did'nt see a Scooter to within 10 miles of our destination, bit of a subdued affair but well done to the Lincoln lads for running the event, top Scooter of the day was this 3 Wheeler, the owner offered to let me ride it but I would of probably fallen off it... wonder if it still exists
Just to finish this page off here's some photos from around the mid 90s, mostly of mate's Scooters or one's which I missed off earlier pages.
