1985 scooter rallies page 1
1985 and Pickering S.C is still going strong, a lot of the lads me included had got our hands in our pockets and had our scooters custom painted by a lad called Vince from York, who was spraying scoots in his mums garage, He later on went under the name of crystal graphics and sprayed the 1980s classic scooters, Athena and Imperialistic, so naturally we could'nt wait for the scooter season to show off our new paint jobs, and naturally coming from Yorkshire that meant the pre season York and Knaresborough runs. Here we go again.....
Easter 1985 and once again were back in good old Morecambe, It always was a good rally mind you it was one of a few seaside towns that would let you in the pubs in the 1980s, the thing that I remember most about this years rally was sliding round a roundabout on my freshly painted custom Vespa, the muralled and signwritten ''SOUL HUSTLER'' sidepanels only being saved by my girlfriends ankle who was still leant back in the cradle backrest, and to all the clubs eternal shame we all rushed to see if the mural was still intact, Amazingly it was unscathed, unlike me and my passenger, talk about embarrasment when told to strip off in Airedale hospital as after 3 days on the ale and 2 allnighters we were'nt smelling too good, none of this modern day chalet and on site showers for the 80s Scooterboys......
Spring bank holiday in Yarmouth, the campsite had returned back to the seafront and the sun was out, unlike 1984 when we were on the racecourse in heavy rain, as usual it was a top rally and life is a drink and you get drunk when your young... just wish I'd taken a better quality camera,
Travelled up to Dunbar on the friday night with the intention of a night out at the Newcastle Setting Sons do in Gateshead, unfortunately a mixture of fog, rain and a tempremental scooter made us get there just as the landlord called time, so it was a sober night roughing it on a golf course for us lads, we were awaken bright and early by two Geordie coppers who pointed us north for Scotland, on arrival in Dunbar two Scotch coppers pointed us South to Yorkshire, or just about anyhow, we were sent to a windswept piece of rough ground outside town to join the other scooters, being true Yorkshire men we spent about 10 minutes on this site then cadged a lift in a van back into Dunbar to hit the pubs, it was'nt a good rally and nothing like   the magic of my first trip to Scotland only a few years earlier, so the only photos I have of this Rally is in the pub or packing up to leave Sunday morning, not to worry though farewell Scotland were off to wonderful Wales next.....
